Trying To Catch A Deluge In A Paper Cup

Currently Listening To :: Don't Dream It's Over :: Crowded House

Had a great dinner at Newtown tonight - while I don't normally go for the Mod Oz, the size of the lamb shanks more then made up for the lack of chai brulee...

After dinner over a cup of coffee and apple strudel fresh from the oven, we talked about daybeds, the differences between llamas and alpaccas, as well as the topic of choice. Apparently in todays world, men are finding it harder and harder to adapt to the seemingly unlimited choice we are presented with, while women are revelling in, if not demanding it.

While Chris Anderson's concept of the 'long tail' in e-marketing came up (in short, the combined selling power of a multitude of niche sellers is now outstripping the sales and profit of traditional 'hits'), we agreed that while we are more wired then ever, there are some experiences that the net can't quite replace. Yet.

All this discussion begged the question of living in an online world where we're presented with seemingly infinite choices, are we really better off? Or are we trapped in a never-ending spiral of trying to satiate our self-indulgence?

Speaking of self-indulgence, this facebook program has hit a real tipping point amongst my multitude (and counting!) of friends. While it's exhibitionist and more then a little voyeuristic, it seems to be a great way to see what people are up to, whether they be halfway across the world or halfway across the hall. Until of course, Google decides it needs to expand its online empire. So cynical I know...

In other news, I've just gotten back from my Vietnam trip with some of my best friends - Kev, Anton and BJee. It was great to get even a glimpse of a new country, see the wonders it had to offer, eat some incredible food, learn some important history, and meet some great people. It goes to show that you've just got to get out there...there's so much life to be lived, who can wait?

Speaking of waiting, I can't wait for this Friday! Birthday drinks @ Crystal Bar and then on to Tank for one of our final nights out with KC and Becs before they jet to NYC. See you at the bar!
