A Quick 3 Day Tokyo Overview
Listening To ::Me Tapping The Keys::
Greetings fair readers from a place far away in both a physical and metaphoric sense. That's right, I'm here in Tokyo, and I've managed to hop on the net for a scant few minutes to jot down some thoughts on this destination of mine.
Although the weather hasn't been cooperating all that well (it's been raining since touchdown on Sunday), Addy and I have managed to battle through it and cover quite a bit of Tokyo and even some beyond the metropolis so far. Harajuku and Aoyama were first up; with all of Gwen Steffani's ranting about Harajuku girls and their "wickid style", I can't help but say I was a little disappointed by the quantity, but not by the quality. Perhaps the makeup just doesn't cut it in the rain.
Aoyama is like most large city central shopping districts, with the highlight being the must see Prada store with it's very post-modern design. Not that I went inside, but as I've said in a previous post, the design of Prada stores never ceases to let me down. One day I may actually buy something!
Shibuya was just what I expected - a maze of life, people and neon all moving to their own rhythm yet somehow fitting, segueing if you will into each other. Again, the poor weather stopped a more full exploration, but needless to say that one night in Shibuya was not enough.
Thus far I've managed to accumulate several great t-shirts, a pair of jeans and some rude-boy trainers. I'm this close to buying a white belt, a velvet blazer and leather satchel bag to complete my sartorial cravings, but they can wait for a little bit.
Tomorrow I'm off to Studio Ghibli - for all those who loved Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro, this is the theme park for you (and me!). Then it'll be on to Shinjuku for the afternoon and the infamous "Lost In Translation" Park Hyatt, for some Suntory Times!
I'll write again with more overservations - the crazes, the costumes/uniforms, the oddness, and probably dispell some myths that I have held. But that's for a later update. I'm off to find some dinner - can you believe I've been here three days and not a piece of raw fish consumed yet?

Glad to hear you're having a good time mate. Keep the updates coming through cause I'm sure we're all keen to keep abreast of your satorial adventures in Japan. Bust (or confirm) some more Japanese myths for me!
watch out for the nato beans (fermented soy beans) on the sushi train! I thought i'd try something new and pretty much spewed having about 5 japanese waiters hovering around me with water and serviettes - i felt so bad like i had insulted their cooking or something!!
