A Whole New World

Currently Listening To :: Curbside Prophet (live) :: Jason Mraz

It's been about 3 weeks since I started my new role at the Big U, and it's been an educational experience to say the least.

Having taken a career interest in Shampoo and other HPC (that's Home and Personal Care) products, I can't even remember a time when I DIDN'T think about them. I also can't remember a time when I walked into a Supermarket and didn't immediately notice what was on the specials at the front of the store and whether the Shampoo was where it was meant to be.

Working in an office where the ratio of women to men is at least 2:1, I've learned to play the stereotype of the "oblivious male" to perfection. Staying clear of any inter-office gossip and bitching is the name of the game here. However, this also means that I'm privy to a lot of secret goings on in the office, as I'm viewed as a 'safe' ear to tell.

After all, we men need to be told what we want...otherwise, we'll just go no assuming we're right, right?
Naturally.

Quote of the Moment: Like happiness, enjoyment is a by-product that comes from doing other things well. You cannot aim at it directly. You don't steer a car by looking in the rear view mirror. You need to look forward.

It's amazing what you can find in manuals on ABC (which, despite sounding like a manifesto of the Jackson 5 legacy, is really about Advanced Brand Communication).

So the next time you're thinking that the quiet male co-worker in your office is the type to listen to your gossip about the girl down the hall who slept with so-and-so at the Christmas party, think again. He does more than just keep his mouth shut and his head down...he's harvesting a store of informative chestnuts, ready to sow, reap and enjoy when the time is right.

Let the roasting begin.
